Originally formed in 1875 as Small Heath Alliance, they didn’t officially become Birmingham City until 1943. The teams most successful period was between 1950-1960 where they achieved their highest position in the First Division, finishing 6th. They also reached the 1956 FA Cup final and won their first major trophy – the League Cup in 1963 against rivals Aston Villa. For the majority of their history, they have played in the top tier, only straying outside the top division between 1986 and 2002. Their home ground, St Andrew’s which has a capacity for 75,000 fans, has seen the team play since 1906.
